As you can see in the orientation week’s schedule, we offer what we call workshops on Tuesday and Thursday. This means there is no fixed program that applies to everyone, but rather a selection of various workshops that you can attend (or skip if you need a break). This year, the orientation week will take place in the week from October 14 to 17, 2024.

We strongly recommend that you have your own student ID and a bicycle with you for the orientation week.

Planning is already underway and now all that’s missing is you! To give you a good start to your studies, the Student Council (FSR) and the three subject groups (FGs), together with many volunteers, organize the so-called orientation week, or O-Phase for short, for all first-semester students every year. We show you which places you need to know in Göttingen, what the university has to offer and provide you with important information about your future studies.

But the main thing is: you get to know your fellow students! An elementary part of studying is working independently on exercise sheets, so you can already start to find study groups here, which will help almost all students enormously.

If you are studying Applied Data Science, most of your orientation week will take place at the north campus. Meet in MN08 in geography building at the north campus at 09:30 am.

For all Mathematical Data Science students, it’s off to the south: We’ll be waiting for you at the Institute of Mathematics at 10 am.

The orientation week is designed so that you can attend all the important courses in both subjects. For all teacher training students, the orientation week for the Teacher Training Profile takes place on Tuesday morning in addition to our orientation week.

The next day, the Wednesday of the orientation week, is an all-day „crossover day“, on which events of your second subject take place at the respective faculty (when and where can be found on the respective homepage). So if you are otherwise attending the orientation week of your other subject or are not with us on Tuesday for other reasons, you can attend the Mathematics or Computer Science study counseling on Wednesday morning, especially for 2-subject bachelor’s degrees. The study counseling takes place online at this link at 10 am.

If you are studying mathematics and computer science in the 2-subject Bachelor’s program, you can choose which orientation week you go to. Many activities, such as the Göttingen rally or the games evening, take place together. However, due to the much smaller number of computer science teaching students, we recommend that student teachers with this subject combination first go to computer science on Monday.
